The Star Trek influence

- The first computer "Altair" was named after a planet from Star Trek.
- The first space shuttle was named "Enterprise"
- The UI (user interface) for the Palm OS back in '93, was influenced by the UI of the Enterprise bridge panels.
- The Mobil Phone was created based on the comunicator from the series, same goes with the flip feature. The ear comunicator used by Uhura was the base for the bluetooth.

You fail to mention that the original Star Trek was heavily influenced by the movie "Forbidden Planet".

Has to be, "Forbidden Planet" is a cult classic. But you have to agree also that Star Trek has touched more people on more years arround the world......

The first shuttle was only name Enterprise because of the bajillion geeks who sent letters to NASA begging they make it so...

Although there are interesting connections and coincidences, most of that stuff would have happened anyway. People just point to Star Trek because it's their only cultural reference. None of the ideas in ST were truly original. They have been considered before.
